WHAT IS YOGA
Yoga, in Sanskrit, means to join or unite. Yoga is about uniting body mind and soul as one to achieve a happy, balanced and useful life.
BENEFITS OF YOGA AND WHO CAN PRACTICE IT?
Yoga increases your flexiblility, strengthens your muscles, centers your thoughts, and relaxes and calms you. It helps to relieve back, neck and shoulder pains. Yoga relieves symptoms of carpal tunnel and lowers blood pressure and blood glucose in diabetics. Asthma patients have also seen much improvement after exercising Yoga. Yoga is said to improve the overall quality of life and well being.
Anybody can practice Yoga. Your age, weight, height or elasticity is not an issue. The goal is to do as much as you can with concentration and conviction.
WHICH YOGA SYSTEM?
We practice Hatha Yoga. This is a system that combines breathing techniques and Asana positions.
A TYPICAL CLASS
We start with Qi-gong (Qi=energy; gong=work) position to warm up the body. We then continue with Asana positions and end the class with guided meditation. Once the session has finished, you can enjoy one of our herbal tea selections while joining in on a Yoga chat.
HISTORY OF YOGA
Many people have made the mistake of thinking that Yoga started with Hinduism. On the contrary, Hinduism came much later and simply embraced the concepts of Yoga. No one knows exactally when Yoga was first practiced, however, it is believed to be before recorded history. Archeological findings dated over 5000 years ago (such as the carvings found on the stones from the Indus Valley) show various Yoga figures.
